Frances Anderson (pictured above), the founder of Patney, had suffered from snoring for most of her life.
She has experienced the negative effects caused by broken sleep and consequent fatigue.
Frances could see the detrimental impact snoring was having on her health and her families. But it wasn’t until Frances’s husband told her one morning that she had scared the life out of him during the night because she had stopped breathing; this comment meant she was heading for sleep apnoea...
Frances had tried many different anti-snoring products including surgery without success, so she decided to take things into her own hands. Setting out to solve what others have struggled to do brought together strands from her past. Frances has a love of design and textiles, interwoven with elements from her career of manufacturing, logistics and project management; an ideal grounding for a design-led start-up that would help combat snoring.
Fast forward to today, Patney is no longer a dream, it is a reality for controlling snoring.
Patney design and development
It was our founder’s desire to control her snoring that led her to design the original Patney prototype. It needed to be effective, non-invasive and it had to be extremely comfortable.
With each iteration of the sleep positioner, we worked to build on the learnings from the version before. Often very subtle improvements increased the effectiveness. The Patney we bring to our customers today is customised to the individual’s height and weight and comfortably supports your head, neck, jaw and shoulders, thereby helping sleepers to control their snoring by:
- Promoting good sleep posture
- Supporting an open airway so sleepers can breathe more freely
Made purely from sustainable natural latex
Natural latex is weight supporting, temperature neutral and it has breathability to leave the sleeper feeling revitalised and energised for the day ahead. It also provides wonderful levels of comfort and has the following properties:
- Dust mite resistant
We carefully considered where we would source the latex from and we chose a trusted latex foam specialist. We personally observed the whole process, from the tree to the finished product.
Patney's latex is sourced from sustainably farmed plantations, where the tree is carefully tapped by hand. We are committed to working sustainably. The world needs more snore free sleep, but not at a cost to the environment and the world we live in.
"I have been using my Patney for nearly a year now and it has made a huge difference to how I feel in the morning. I would often wake up feeling like I didn’t get enough sleep due to my heavy snoring. My wife is also much happier as she doesn’t get woken up by my extremely loud snoring."
